SUMMARY:Sunnymeade Twilight Event
DESCRIPTION:Experience Sunnymeade after hours at this special twilight event\, offering an intimate and atmospheric way to explore Peter and Simone Shaw’s celebrated Anglesea garden. Held prior to the garden’s public open days and requiring a separate ticket\, this relaxed evening invites visitors to wander at their own pace as daylight fades across the coastal landscape.\nKnown for its sculptural stringybark gums\, flowing grassy mounds\, and thoughtfully layered native plantings\, Sunnymeade takes on a new character at dusk. As the last light settles behind the trees\, gentle garden lighting reveals shifting textures and contrasts\, while fire pits create warm gathering spots throughout the space. Guests will enjoy a complimentary glass of wine on arrival\, with light food served informally as you explore. Curated music drifts through the garden\, accompanied by a selection of short\, themed readings that add to the reflective mood.\nDesigned to be welcoming and unhurried\, the evening offers space to connect with others or simply find a quiet corner to take it all in – an evocative and memorable garden experience. \nSunnymeade is located on the lands of the Wadawurrung people. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders\, past\, present and emerging.

SUMMARY:Open Garden - Sunnymeade
DESCRIPTION:Open Gardens Victoria invites visitors to experience Sunnymeade\, the acclaimed Anglesea garden of award-winning landscape designer Peter Shaw\, opening this April. Nestled among striking twisted stringybark trees\, the garden presents a relaxed coastal style shaped by its natural surroundings and designed for family living.\nOriginally discovered by Peter and Simone Shaw in 2000\, the site was carefully developed to preserve its mature trees\, which now define the garden’s character. Structured plantings of clipped correas and westringias near the home gradually give way to more informal\, flowing spaces\, with winding gravel paths\, drystone walls\, and a sculpted lawn creating a sense of movement and discovery.\nEvolving over more than two decades\, Sunnymeade reflects an ongoing exploration of plants\, textures\, and seasonal colour. Visitors can explore the Sacred Garden of indigenous species\, alongside productive vegetable beds and creative planting that connects house and landscape. A garden talk by Peter Shaw will be held at 11.30am each day\, with local artists’ work on display and for sale\, plus light refreshments\, coffee and snacks available.\nFeatured on several major design and garden programs and winner of a Victorian Landscape Award\, Sunnymeade offers an inspiring and immersive garden experience. \nAdults $10 Students $6 (with ID card)\nUnder 18 and students with OGV Annual Student Pass (with ID) – Free \nSunnymeade is located on the lands of the Wadawurrung people. SUMMARY:Open Garden - Amber's Garden In Autumn
DESCRIPTION:Autumn in Amber’s Garden is a whole different experience to when it opened in spring 2023.\nSet on a gently sloping north-facing block\, this richly varied garden is a constant delight\, featuring a sequence of courtyards\, lawns and garden ‘rooms’ that beautifully showcase a very wide range of thriving exotic and native plants\, many of which are unusual to find in Canberra.\nExtended and modified over the past 10 years from the 1980s original\, this large informal garden is notable for its big collection of salvias together with roses\, camellias\, perennials\, bulbs\, maples\, orchids and many unusual Australian native plants. Autumn is the time for camellias\, salvias\, late season perennials\, deciduous colour and Australian natives like correas and banksias.\nPhoto: Anne Mackenzie

SUMMARY:Open Garden - Scenic Court
DESCRIPTION:Open as part of the 2025 SA Landscape Festival\, Scenic Court has matured and is looking spectacular!\nThe mid-century modern 1969 home was acquired by the current owners six years ago and has since been smartly renovated. However the steeply sloping garden was not practical and the owners realised they needed help in creating flat\, functional and family-friendly spaces.\nRetaining walls were used to form a series of level terraces each with its own purpose and individual yet connected character. The top terrace makes a lovely secluded sitting spot and offers scenic views and on the level below an area of lawn serves as a play space for children and dogs.\nInformal stone or timber steps link the different terraces and\, with their edges softened with the exuberant planting in the adjoining garden beds\, the steps are a striking visual highlight.

SUMMARY:Open Garden - Garden of Hope
DESCRIPTION:Designed to delight in every season\, Garden of Hope is opening to the public with Open Gardens Victoria this autumn. Following a popular summer opening\, this return offers a rare chance to see the same garden at a different point in its seasonal journey\, where maturity\, texture and structure take centre stage. \nCreated by garden designer and former medical oncologist Dr Jacquie Chirgwin with her husband Paul Kertes\, the Templestowe garden is a layered\, expressive landscape that celebrates resilience\, creativity and renewal. Once a neglected site with poor soil\, it has been transformed into a richly planted space featuring salvias\, euphorbias\, agastaches\, penstemons and ornamental grasses\, set beneath established eucalypts and robinias. \nColour is central to the design\, with each garden bed showcasing its own palette\, unified by Jacquie’s signature pink. Visitors will enjoy a succession of blooms complemented by silver foliage and grasses that bring movement and autumnal interest. The garden blends open lawn and entertaining areas with abundant perennial borders\, a native garden and a productive picking garden. A striking wall mural by Sebastian Franz adds a bold artistic flourish. \nA deeply personal project\, the Garden of Hope reflects Jacquie and Paul’s shared life and values\, with a portion of gate takings supporting Breast Cancer Trials.\nGarden of Hope is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri People. Open Gardens Victoria wish to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders\, past\, present and emerging.

DESCRIPTION:Part of The Great Trentham Spudfest – Discovery Day\, this special behind-the-scenes workshop at Fleurs de Lyonville invites visitors to step onto a working flower farm and learn how growers prepare for the changing seasons.\nOwners Janae and Chris Paquin-Bowden will lead a guided farm walk and practical workshop exploring how the farm is readied for winter and set up for a productive spring ahead. Ideal for gardeners\, flower lovers and aspiring growers\, the session covers succession planning\, winter soil care\, composting and mulching\, organic pest management and preparing beds using no-dig methods.\nGuests will see what’s currently planted across the farm and take part in hands-on tulip planting\, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way. The small-group workshop runs for approximately two to two-and-a-half hours and includes refreshments. \nSpudfest Discovery Day opens the gates to farms\, gardens and makers across Trentham and neighbouring towns\, offering a chance to explore the region’s rich volcanic soils and learn directly from the people who grow here year-round.

SUMMARY:Open Garden - Hilltop
DESCRIPTION:An elegant park-like garden with mature deciduous trees in all their autumn glory. \nAfter the devastating loss of their beautiful Georgian house and garden in the Port Lincoln bushfires in 2005\, Lindy and Richard spent three years searching for a place to rebuild their lives.\nEventually\, they found Hilltop in Stirling\, a large garden with many mature trees\, a lake and some fine stone walls. \nThe garden was initially developed by Alice Howard\, the granddaughter of Sir John Downer\, who established Glenalta\, the garden just north of Hilltop. In 2008 they moved in and Lindy immediately set about removing some of the declining trees and shrubs to create long vistas and improve the balance between open space and secluded corners. \nTall October Glory maples line the entrance drive\, which winds gently through the trees and opens to the striking Dutch Colonial house. Formal lawn terraces\, stone walls and paths lead down to a little Italian pond with its charming bronze fountain. An informal woodland garden wraps around the sunken lawn and features deciduous trees known for their beautiful autumn colour\, underplanted with shade-loving plants. \nThe courtyard garden links the front terrace to the back terrace and the garden room built in 2020. A small Dutch garden is being developed with abelia\, rosemary\, iris\, lamb’s ears\, Dutch box and a sundial\, which was one of the few garden ornaments that survived the Pt Lincoln bushfire. At the other end of the long pergola is a Japanese-inspired garden with a pond and a lawn surrounded by sycamores\, laburnum\, Chinese elm\, Dawn redwood\, and weeping Greenstead cypresses. \nThrough the garden gate is another large\, peaceful park-like garden leading down to the lake and a stand of candle bark gums with an underplanting of native shrubs and grasses. \nSize: 9 acres\nCharity: Breast Cancer Research
