When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements:
Keep moist and well fed at all times. Grows well in a water pot without soil.
Soil:
Boggy soil, enriched with compost and/or well-rotted manure. If growing in a water pot use organic fertiliser pellets.
How to start: SEED: Sow in punnets in seed-raising mix. Keep very moist. Germinates in 5-7 days. SEEDLING: When seedlings are 5-10cm+ tall transfer to a water container that's 35-45cm+ diameter. Cut a piece of steel mesh for inside the pot where it should sit just below the water level. Simply place the seedling on top of the mesh. CUTTINGS: Drop stem cuttings into the water pot, on top of the mesh. They will grow roots 5-7 days.
How to grow: If growing in the ground apply seaweed solution and liquid fertiliser fortnightly. Apply organic fertliser pellets monthly. If growing in a water container (without fish) apply liquid fertiliser fortnightly.
When to harvest: Start harvesting in 3-4 weeks by snipping off the young leaves and shoots. They'll quickly regrow allowing continuous harvesting.
Troubleshooting:
Leaf beetle; aphids; whitefly
