Forest Edge is a picturesque, 2.5-acre garden set against the backdrop of the Wombat State Forest. With views across the treetops, cool mountain air, and an abundance of native birdlife, this gently sloping woodland garden is a serene and sensory delight.
Originally established in 1862, the property features garden tiers built from local stone, a magnificent 160-year-old Irish Strawberry tree, and a fascinating array of garden curiosities, from a children’s garden beneath a weeping elm, to a cleverly designed Victorian gold town streetscape that disguises the property’s outbuildings.
Seasonal highlights include tree peonies, hellebores, daffodils, tulips, aquilegia, iris, and flowering shrubs. The garden blends cottage charm, woodland planting, and artistic whimsy, including sculptures by local artist Greg Cassidy. Visitors may even catch sight of kangaroos as the garden merges seamlessly into the surrounding forest.
