Open Gardens Victoria presents a unique joint opening celebrating community, sustainability, and the power of growing together. Farm Raiser Urban Farm and Bellfield Community Garden, two inspiring, side-by-side spaces just 12km from Melbourne’s CBD,will open to the public for a weekend of tours, workshops, kids’ activities, and productive garden inspiration.
Farm Raiser Urban Farm is a 1.8-acre former vacant lot transformed into a thriving urban farm and social enterprise. Established in 2017 by horticulture students, it now offers food relief, therapeutic gardening, and vocational education for students with disabilities. Visitors can explore lush vegetable rows, flowering pollinator beds, polytunnels, compost systems, and a farm shop filled with organic produce. With strong community partnerships and healing programs, Farm Raiser demonstrates how urban agriculture can nurture both people and place.
Address: 15 Perkins Avenue, Bellfield VIC 3081
Bellfield Community Garden, just next door, is a beautifully designed, purpose-built space created by a community gardener turned landscape architect. Now in its fourth and permanent home, it features communal beds, a greenhouse, composting bays, play spaces, fruit trees, and more. Visitors can enjoy spring planting displays, composting demos, and community hospitality, all powered by volunteers.
Together, these two gardens offer a vibrant vision of urban sustainability and connection.
