Illawarra Edible Garden Trail

Illawarra locals will open their gardens to the public this spring, inviting visitors into backyard vegie patches, chook runs, native beehives and thriving urban permaculture projects. Now in its fourth year, the Illawarra Edible Garden Trail will stretch the full length of the coast for the first time, from Helensburgh to Gerringong, spanning Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama.

Whether you have a sprawling suburban block or a sunny balcony, this not-for-profit community event invites people to wander through real, working food gardens, meet the people who grow them and get practical ideas and advice along the way.

The 2026 Trail runs from 10am to 3pm on:

• Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November: Helensburgh to West Wollongong
• Saturday 7 November and Sunday 8 November: Cringilla to Gerringong

One ticket gives access to every garden on the trail across both weekends so you can pick and choose which gardens you visit – or see them all! The garden owners will be on site to answer all your questions.
