Ridgefield
Set against panoramic views of the Yarra Valley in Coldstream, Ridgefield is widely regarded as one of the region’s finest private gardens, with a mature landscape originally crafted by renowned landscape designer Robert Boyle. First opened in 2016, the three-acre garden returns this spring as one of Open Gardens Victoria’s Anniversary Gardens, entering a revived chapter under the care of new owners Jo and Chris, who have infused the property with fresh ideas and creative energy.
While honouring Boyle’s original garden design, the couple has expanded the garden’s kitchen and orchard areas, which now support their artisanal venture, Kolido Perfumery. Drawing inspiration from Ridgefield’s cultivated landscape, nearby bushland and stables, and the broader Yarra Valley, the fragrances reflect a strong sense of place. Scents are developed on-site in a purpose-built lab, converted from a former farm shed.
The garden wraps around the striking John Pizzey designed stone and mudbrick home, with highlights including a tuscan terrace, formal rose quadrants, an evocative crabapple walk, and over 500 varieties of early-spring roses, cherry blossoms, and perennials. Across the open days, enjoy a CFA sausage sizzle, tea and cakes, and browse a curated range of Kolido Perfumery products.
