Presented by Open Gardens Victoria, this evening of lively, in-depth conversation explores what happens when plants sit at the heart of the design process. Acclaimed landscape designer Kathleen Murphy and plant-loving landscape architect Phoebe Couyant will be joined by internationally recognised landscape architect Natasha Morgan as facilitator, bringing together three distinct yet complementary perspectives on garden-making.
With more than 25 years’ design experience, Kathleen Murphy is known for immersive, plant-rich landscapes that balance strong structure with a deep sensitivity to place. Her award-winning garden, Native Retreat, recognised by the Design Files Landscape Design Awards, reflects her commitment to creating layered, enduring environments grounded in Australian flora and climate.
Phoebe Couyant brings over two decades of experience shaping diverse green spaces, from intimate residential gardens to complex public landscapes. Her practice reflects a nuanced understanding of planting design, ecological systems and the emotional resonance of gardens, drawing on a broad and interdisciplinary career.
Guiding the conversation, Natasha Morgan is celebrated for gardens that weave beauty, productivity and sustainability into everyday life. As a designer and educator, she is known for articulating the thinking behind meaningful, liveable landscapes.
Together, they will explore how site, structure and planting come together to create gardens of clarity, character and lasting impact.
