Chives

With their pleasing, onion-like flavour, chives are a tasty addition to many cuisines.

When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements: Full sun, or part-shade indoors; well-drained soil
Soil: Prepare soil by weeding, and digging through compost and well-rotted manure. If growing in pots use a premium potting mix.

SEEDLING: Space 15cm apart, in rows 15cm apart. Water in and mulch with straw. NOTE: Chive seeds are small - they can be mixed with sand or seed-raising mix prior to planting.
How to grow: Water regularly. Apply blood and bone in spring and autumn.
When to harvest: Harvest as needed from 8 weeks. Cut leaves off at the base.
Troubleshooting: Aphids; thrips; rust
