Think large, mild radish and you’ve discovered daikon! Use fresh, pickled or cooked.

When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements: Deep, friable soil free from debris; needs cooler conditions.
Soil: Deep, loose soil with debris removed.
How to start: SEED: Best sown direct in the ground. 10mm deep, 8cm apart, in rows 30cm apart. Keep moist. Germinates in 3-14 days.
How to grow: Keep moist, weed free, and mulched with straw. Thin seedlings to 8cm. Apply seaweed solution or liquid fertiliser fortnightly. If soil is poor, apply organic fertiliser pellets monthly.
When to harvest: Start harvesting from 8 weeks, as required. Pull gently from the ground.
Troubleshooting: Cabbage white butterfly; cabbage moth; slugs and snails; bolting
