Kohlrabi has a crisp, crunchy texture and a mild, sweet flavour, with just a hint of mustard heat.

When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements: Full sun to part shade; free-draining fertile soil
Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with compost and/or well-rotted manure or organic pellets.
How to start: SEED: Best sown direct in the ground, 5mm deep. Keep moist. Germinates in 3-10 days. SEEDLING: Space 20cm apart, in rows 40cm apart.
How to grow: Keep moist and mulch with straw. Apply seaweed solution or liquid fertiliser fortnightly. Apply organic fertiliser pellets monthly.
When to harvest: Harvest leaves from 8 weeks and the stems when they're large enough to eat. Cut the entire plant at ground level.
Troubleshooting: Cabbage white butterfly; cabbage moth; slugs and snails; aphids
