Rocket is a fast-growing annual used in salads. Wild rocket is a short-lived perennial used in salad and stir-fries, with more peppery leaves than regular rocket.
When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements:
Full sun or part shade, fertile soil with plenty of nutrients
Soil:
Well-drained soil enriched with compost and/or well-rotted manure or organic pellets.
How to start: SEED: Sow direct in the ground in rows or scattered, or in punnets into seed-raising mix. Sow 3mm deep, 40cm apart, in rows 40cm apart. Keep moist. Germinates in 7-21 days. SEEDLING: Plant in the ground when seedlings are 5-8cm+ tall, spaciing 40cm apart, in rows 40cm apart.
How to grow: Keep moist and mulch with straw. Apply seaweed solution or liquid fertiliser fortnightly. Apply organic fertiliser pellets monthly. Shade plants in hot weather.
When to harvest: Start harvesting in 8 weeks, when leaves are large enough, as required.
