Like a taller version of pak choy, the entire tatsoi plant can be eaten raw or added to stir-fries, quiches or other cooked dish.
When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements:
Full sun to part shade. Well-drained position.
Soil:
Well-drained soil enriched with compost and/or well-rotted manure or organic pellets.
How to start: SEED: Sow direct in the ground or in punnets, into seed-raising mix. Sow 6mm deep, 25cm apart, in rows 40cm apart. Keep moist. Germinates in 6-12 days. SEEDLING: Plant in the ground when seedlings are large enough to handle easily. Space them 25cm apart, in rows 40cm apart. Water in and mulch with straw.
How to grow: Keep moist and mulched with straw. Apply seaweed solution or liquid fertiliser fortnightly. Apply organic fertiliser pellets monthly.
When to harvest: Harvest from 4-5 weeks when outside leaves are large enough.
