A Brisbane-based study on the relationship between gardening and mental wellbeing has confirmed what we’ve always suspected: gardening is the bee’s knees!
The study, recently published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, found that, among the nearly 5000 people surveyed, spending 2.5 hours or more gardening each week resulted in significantly higher life satisfaction and mental wellbeing than those who did fewer hours or no gardening at all. To quote lead author Selma Lunde Fjaestad of Swinburne University of Technology: “An activity such as gardening is inexpensive, readily available, scalable and a great wellness booster for mental health and the planet!”
