Nestled in the northern foothills of South Gippsland’s Strzelecki Ranges, and just minutes from Morwell National Park, Into the Blue is set on a one-hectare bush block in Jeeralang Junction, amidst towering eucalyptus trees.
Owners Alan Eagle and Yoka Beumer have tended their patch for nearly 30 years, but still consider the garden a work in progress. Visitors will find a renovated mud-brick house tucked into the landscape, flanked by lawns carved from the hill. Drystone walls hand-built by Alan create a series of terraces, with a wide range of unusual and rare succulents and lovely pops of blue provided by sculptures and garden art.
Alan and Yoka have created an attractive garden, featuring exotic plants near the house with a backdrop of eucalypts further out, partly for fire safety. Oaks, maples, liquidambars, pistachios, cherry, and pear trees were planted to provide autumn colour. Hotter, drier summers have required the slow removal of water-hungry annuals, and the introduction of succulents, providing foliage variation and year round colour.
