Madison Place is a 2-hectare property with sweeping views across a large dam and fountain, located just 15 minutes south of Traralgon, Gippsland’s largest city.
Owners Don and Marrie Vandersteen purchased the property in 2007, and quickly started work on a long to-do list, transforming weed strewn paddocks, a rough farm dam and steep clay embankments into the park-like garden visitors will discover today.
Privacy was a number one priority and fast growing trees were planted quickly to shield from neighbouring properties. With no formal plan, the garden was developed in small stages, so Don and Marrie could enjoy the fruits of their labour, as they progressed. One of the biggest projects was the re-shaping of the old farm dam, achieved by removing soil from its steep embankments, giving it more character, and creating a beautiful feature lake that is now a garden highlight.
This is a strolling garden, with a park-like feel that encourages ambling under the mature trees and plenty of curves and nooks to entice visitors to explore what is around the next corner.
