Peaceful Heart

Located in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Ringwood, Peaceful Heart is an extraordinary testament to owner Lee Purgpewwong’s self-taught topiary skills and creativity, where every element in the compact corner quarter-acre block is sculpted, nurtured, and meticulously trimmed.

Filled with cloud topiary, bonsai, perfect buxus balls, succulents, cycads, and the soothing sound of flowing water, Lee’s garden is utterly unique.

Upon entering the gates, a beautiful weeping Mulberry tree surrounded by a circular iron garden seat catches the eye, as well as an elevated, oversized bonsai with succulents at its base. Spikey cycads burst from pots in blue and copper, contrasting with whitewashed river pebbles and Lee’s own handmade sculptures throughout. The pathway around the pond is lined with lime-green Buxus columns, which lead visitors down the side of the house.

Further down the path, Lee has sculpted a Ligustrum ‘Golden Privet’ into a rectangular base with a one-and-a-half-metre lollipop centre, mimicking the look of a classic potted plant. Here on the shady side of the house, baby tears (Soleirolia soleirolii) provide a lovely ground cover.

A striking cloud-topiary-crafted Chilean myrtle (Luma apiculata) with exposed roots is a true showstopper, giving the illusion of gracefully dancing above the whitewashed river pebbles.
