Pomona – Open Gardens Victoria

Pomona is an exceptional suburban garden where beauty and productivity go hand in hand. Over 17 years, kitchen garden teacher and self-described organic urban homesteader Beth McInnes and her family have transformed their 378-square-metre Coburg North block into a flourishing edible landscape where every corner has a purpose.
The cottage-style front garden combines fruit trees with herbs and flowers before leading to a vibrant organic kitchen garden filled with seasonal vegetables, medicinal herbs and pollinator-friendly blooms. More than 40 fruit trees, berry bushes and edible vines create a productive backyard orchard providing fresh harvests throughout the year.
Created on permaculture principles, Pomona is alive with activity. Chickens and quails forage beneath the fruit trees, while worm farms and compost systems build healthy soil. A walk-in greenhouse provides space for seedlings and extended summer crops, making sustainability part of everyday family life.
