Dill

A versatile, annual herb, dill has feathery leaves that grow on a single stem. Often used to flavour egg, fish and poultry dishes.

When to plant/sow in zone:
Requirements: Sunny position; room to grow; protection from wind
Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with compost and/or well-rotted manure or organic pellets.
How to start: SEED: Best sown direct in the ground, 2mm deep, 20cm apart, or scattered randomly. Keep moist. Germinates in 7-21 days. SEEDLING: Plant outside or into a pot when seedlings are 5-10cm+ tall. Water in and mulch with straw.
How to grow: Water regularly. Apply seaweed solution or liquid fertiliser fortnightly. Remove flowers to prolong leafy growth.
When to harvest: Start harvesting from 8 weeks, pinching or cutting leaves as required. When plants are young and not firmly rooted, take care not to pull out the whole plant.
