Bloom Vivid

Bright ideas

Here are several nature-inspired light installations to look out for during Vivid Sydney 2025.

Running from May 23 to June 14, Vivid Sydney will once again celebrate light, music, ideas and food. This year’s theme, ‘Dream’, has inspired a diverse array of works, with several exploring our deep connection to nature. Among them is Bloom (pictured above), a projected light installation by Canberra-based design studio Eggpicnic that transforms the Rocks’ Argyle Cut tunnel into a dreamscape of stars, fungi, birds and bioluminescent plants, accompanied by a dynamic soundscape.

Also look out for Tunku and Ngaadi (pictured below) by Walbunja-Ngarigo artist Cheryl Davison in collaboration with Studio Gilay – a timeless Dreaming story from the South Coast of NSW brought to life across the roof of the Australian National Maritime Museum. Watch as valleys, plants, animals and waterways take shape before your eyes. Cheryl Davison’s illustrations are accompanied by the voices of the Djinama Yilaga Choir.

In Martin Place, stroll beneath Flowers’ Power by the French studio Spectaculaires – Allumeurs d’images. Nine enormous, mirrored, cartoon-like flowers bloom midway up the buildings, celebrating the beauty and diversity of flowers and turning the business hub into a surreal garden of light.

Head to Barangaroo’s Pennywinkle Lawn and experience the awe-inspiring installation Lumina Dreams by ONGA Artful Light. Six teardrop-shaped sculptures respond in real-time to meteorological data, transforming the environment into an ever-changing display of colours and patterns. This thoughtful installation encourages reflection on our relationship with the Earth and how technology can coexist and work in harmony with nature.
