Florets of fancy

Broccoli is a hungry crop, but given the right growing conditions, it will feed you well in return, writes Phil Dudman.

Broccoli really is the vegetable that gives and keeps on giving. It’s a productive and rewarding crop – and you can even grow it in pots!

GROWING BROCCOLI IN POTS
Broccoli grows well in containers:
● Choose pots with a diameter of at least 30–40cm.
● Fill with premium potting mix, plus some extra fertiliser.
● Pot up plants and water often.
● Feed fortnightly with liquid fertiliser.
● Position where they will receive full winter sun, but with some protection from hot early-autumn afternoons.
