For leaf alone

With their dazzling and diverse leaf types, anthuriums offer a bold, dramatic addition to your indoor plant collection. And many are easy to grow, writes Steve Falcioni.

Anyone who loves indoor plants probably already has a house filled with monsteras and philodendrons. But what about the fabulous foliage anthuriums? With so many striking species available, far beyond the ubiquitous ‘florist anthurium’ (A. andraeanum hybrids), you could easily add some to your collection!
One of our top picks is A. veitchii, the king anthurium (pictured)! This stunner is an epiphyte  (a non-parasitic plant that grows naturally on other plants) with heart-shaped rippled leaves. In perfect growing conditions (high humidity and winter warmth), they can reach 150cm long but it’s more common to see them max out at 80–100cm.
