Create habitat for wildlife

By getting to know more of your local wildlife, and developing a garden with them in mind, you’ll hopefully see an increase in the diversity of visitors – and even more butterflies, birds and bees!
Make a frog lodge
STEP 1 As with the lizard lounge, create a low pile of logs and rocks in a shady spot (pictured above).
STEP 2 Add a plant saucer with scoria and fill with water. Plant indigenous seedlings nearby.

Make a lizard lounge
STEP 1 Expose the soil and nestle 3–4 logs that are of similar lengths and about 4–10cm in diameter into the ground. If they have nooks and crannies, all the better! Lay another two rows to create a low stack.

STEP 2 Build a low pile of angular rocks next to the logs.

STEP 3 Nestle a plant saucer or similar into the ground nearby, and add some scoria (volcanic rock).

STEP 4 Plant seedlings of indigenous species nearby (we used everlasting daisy and bulbine lily), replace the mulch around the logs, and fill the saucer with water.

STEP 5 Look for visitors.
